Flame-retardant / Anti-static work clothing or FR/AS work clothing offers protection against flames, arcs, welding spatter, etc. Places or activities where flames can easily arise. The antistatic properties ensure that no sparks are caused by electrostatic charges. Flame retardant clothing can have two different compositions. The two different materials are:
- 1. A flame-resistant finish. A flame-resistant finish is applied to non-flame-resistant materials. The disadvantage of this is that the flame-resistant property can be negatively affected by contamination such as oil and grease. The finish can also be affected during washing using bleaches or poorly rinsed soaps.
- 2. Inherently flame retardant. These materials do not require additional flame retardant treatment. This material retains its properties regardless of the number of washes.
