Grip and dexterity: coating and material
Small components require precise movements. Hi-Dex gloves have a fine 18-gauge knit and a PU coating for dry work. Milwaukee uses nitrile for its standard cut-resistant models, with versions for dry, damp and greasy conditions. The coating and knit together determine how directly you can feel the material in your hand.
Flex has a synthetic-leather palm and a textile back. Hybrid leather gloves combine a leather palm with a synthetic-leather back; the leather version uses goatskin. These are different material choices from a thinly coated glove. Performance and DemoX add practical details such as a sweat wipe and palm or knuckle reinforcement.
Cut protection for hands and forearms
The cut-resistant range covers different levels, from A through F. The level required depends on the material and task: picking up a component is different from working along sharp sheet edges. There are also hi-vis versions with a conspicuous back of the hand.
Level C and E cut-resistant sleeves complement hand protection. They have a tapered shape, stretchy nylon, a non-slip upper band and a thumb loop. This covers the forearm without leaving that job to an ordinary clothing sleeve. The more detailed Milwaukee work glove selection guide explains coatings, cut levels and working conditions.
Cold, impact and wet work call for different properties
Winter versions add insulation. The winter demolition glove, for example, uses a double acrylic lining and has a waterproof and windproof layer on the palm. Impact Pro and Impact DemoX have protective sections on the back of the hand and fingers. Pad Pro uses foam padding in the palm for comfort when holding vibrating tools.
For wet or oily work, there are fully double-dipped nitrile gloves. Chemical-resistant gloves are a separate version, with a longer cuff and specific tested substances. There are also disposable nitrile gloves with a diamond texture for grip. Water and oil resistance alone does not tell you which chemicals a glove can handle.
There are dedicated chainsaw gloves for chainsaw work. This protection does not follow from the ordinary cut letter A through F; it involves a different application and test.
Using a screen with SMARTSWIPE
SMARTSWIPE enables touchscreen operation on the parts of the glove equipped for it. On Flex, these include the knuckles and fingertips; on other models, the function is on the palm or index-finger knuckle. To complete your equipment, there are also Milwaukee safety glasses and accessories for kneeling work and tool tethering.
