How do overalls become flame retardant?
There are two different ways in which a flame-retardant coverall can achieve its protective effect. First of all, the fire-retardant overalls in question can be made of a material that is flame-resistant in itself. Twaron® and Kevlar® are well-known examples of this. However, most of the flame-retardant work clothing currently on the market owes its properties to a flame-resistant protective layer applied to the fabric. It is not the case that this coating protects against flames less well, but it is important to know that it is often impossible to see with the naked eye whether the flame-retardant layer is still completely intact. However, flame-retardant and anti-static overalls with such a layer are often more comfortable. To combine the best of both worlds, more and more flame-retardant overalls and work jackets are being made available that are made from a combination of fabrics from both categories.
Inherently flame retardant coverall
Inherently flame retardant is a term that is increasingly mentioned for fire retardant clothing. If this is stated, you know that the fire-retardant properties are in the fiber, such as with Kevlar®. Modacrylic is also a synthetic fiber that gives the overalls its inherent flame-retardant properties. The advantage of an inherently flame-retardant coverall is that the fire-resistant properties are not lost if you wash the coverall often. That can happen with a coating.
Extra protection for your flame retardant/AS overalls
All overalls on this page are both flame retardant and antistatic. You are therefore protected against burns, but also against the harmful effects of electrostatic discharge. However, many of these work overalls, especially the multi-protectors, have many more protective properties. For example, a large number of these fire-retardant overalls are High Vis. This means that these overalls increase your visibility if the situation requires it. Different models also protect you against splashing chemicals, the cold or the heat. If you have to work in warm temperatures in the summer, the lightweight overalls from our range will certainly help you. Work clothing for welding has a different standard than flame-retardant clothing, but a fair number of the overalls you see here are suitable for both situations.
