What are ESD work shoes?
ESD is an English abbreviation that stands for 'Electro static discharge'. In concrete terms, this means that ESD work shoes offer protection in situations with an increased risk of this type of discharge. In almost every industry where this is the case, ESD work shoes will be mandatory. The resistance of ESD work shoes is very low: between 0.1 and 100 Ω. This means you won't get a shock when working with parts that have different electrical charges, because you're not charging yourself, so to speak. Naturally, this is also better for the parts or devices you work with.
When you browse through our range of ESD work shoes, you will see that the safety shoes have a safety standard that starts with an S, followed by a number. All these work shoes are anti static and have a protective toe cap made of plastic or steel. You can read further protective properties from the standard. For example, S2 and S3 work shoes are water-repellent for up to 60 minutes. S3 safety shoes also have a profiled outsole and a midsole that prevents perforation. You will also find such a midsole in S1P work shoes.
Types of ESD work shoes
Unishore Workwear has a particularly varied range of ESD work shoes. This includes sturdy high work shoes and work boots, as people traditionally imagine work shoes to be. But we also have a wide range of work sneakers that offer protection against electrostatic discharge. These lightweight work shoes may look like contemporary sports shoes, but they still contain all the protective properties you would expect from ESD work shoes.
ESD shoes ladies
In addition to men's or unisex ESD work shoes, there is also a market for women's ESD work shoes. Brands such as Grisport, Helly Hansen and Sixton offer both women's and men's models. There are also various brands that supply ESD safety shoes from size 36. Because women's feet are different from men's feet, special models have been developed for this. The last of these is usually slightly slimmer to accommodate the slimmer women's feet.
When should you wear ESD shoes?
ESD work shoes are very important for professionals who work with sensitive electronics (such as hard drives, microchips, etc.) or in working environments where there is a risk of explosions. It is advisable to also wear conductive work clothing in these situations, such as an anti-static work jacket, anti-static work trousers or anti-static overalls. When you move, friction always creates an electrostatic charge in the body. Shoes and clothing that are not conductive (enough) can increase this charge. When a lack of discharge occurs, electronic products can be irreparably damaged. If you work with gases, chemicals, explosives or dust explosions, the risk of an explosion increases if there is no electronic discharge.
