How do you determine your work trouser size? 
Determining the right work trouser sizes starts with the basics: to measure is to know. Do not rely blindly on the size of your favorite casual jeans, as workwear sizing is often more specific and closely tied to body measurements. To find the ideal men's work trouser sizes, measure three points:
- Waist circumference: Measure at the place where you wear the pants (usually at the level of the navel or just above).
- Hip circumference: Measure the widest point of your hips/buttocks.
- Inside leg length: Measure from the crotch to the ankle.
Tip: Measure directly over your skin or over close-fitting underwear and do not pull the measuring tape too tight. An accurate measurement prevents your knee pads from dangling below your knees or your pants from pinching when bending over.

How do work trouser sizes and size designations work?
In the world of workwear, you often encounter European ready-made sizes (46, 48, 50, 52, etc.). But how does converting work trouser sizes into the familiar letters S, M, L, and XL work?
- Size 46/48 often corresponds to size S/M.
- Size 50 is the most common size and usually translates to a size L.
- Size 52 is comparable to a roomy L or XL.
- Converting work trousers size 52: If you have size 52, your waist circumference is approximately 92 to 96 centimeters.
By consulting a work trouser size chart, you can immediately see which clothing size corresponds to your measurements. Please note: brands such as Snickers or Fristads often have their own specific charts that take into account the ergonomic cut of their trousers.
What do W and L sizes, such as W32/L32, mean? 
Sometimes you see the designation in inches, better known as the jeans size. Choosing a pair of work trousers that fit becomes easier if you understand this system: the W stands for Waist and the L for Length. To convert this to centimeters, multiply the inch size by 2.54.
A very handy rule of thumb we often use is: inch size + 18. For example, do you have a jeans size W32? Add 18 to this (32 + 18 = 50) and you arrive at the European ready-to-wear size 50. This way, you can convert your work trouser sizes very quickly and easily. A W32/L32 therefore means a waist of approximately 81 cm and an inseam of 81 cm, which corresponds to size 50 in most size charts.

Should you take a size larger or smaller?
The correct size of work trousers depends on how you work and what you wear under your work clothes. Therefore, take the following points into account:
- Do you often wear thermal pants or a thick sweater tucked into your pants? Then going up a size might be wise, for example, size 46 work pants instead of size XS.
- Do you work a lot on your knees or do you often have to climb? Then choose work trousers with stretch. In that case, a larger size is usually not necessary, because the fabric moves with you.
- Never intentionally choose a size that is too small. Workwear is made of sturdy materials such as canvas or Cordura, which retain their shape well and hardly stretch.
