Buckbootz BBZ neoprene boots compared: which model suits your work?

Buckbootz BBZ9000, BBZ8000 and BBZ6000 neoprene safety boots on a wet industrial site.

The Buckbootz BBZ9000 provides extra protection over the metatarsal area, the BBZ8000 protects the ankle against impact, and the BBZ6000 combines safety protection with ankle and Achilles support. All three ranges consist of waterproof, metal-free neoprene safety boots. Your choice mainly depends on the risk you need to protect your foot against.

We compare five versions: BBZ9000BK, BBZ8000BKYL, BBZ8000BKOR, BBZ6000BKNM and BBZ6000BLNM. These are three model ranges in different colours. They all have a waterproof neoprene and rubber construction, reflective details all around and metal-free safety components. Below, we explain where the differences lie and what they mean for your work.

The five BBZ boots compared

All five have a safety toe cap, a penetration-resistant midsole and energy absorption under the heel (E). The table also shows the support and additional impact protection: M for the metatarsal area and AN for the ankle.

Three protection options, five versions
Model and colour Additional metatarsal protection (M) Additional ankle impact protection (AN) Waterproof Reflective details Support and additional protection
BBZ9000BKBlack with grey contrast M — Yes 360° details Ankle support, with additional metatarsal protection (M)

BBZ6000BLNMDark blue with orange / black — — Yes 360° details Ankle and Achilles support

All five versions compared here are classified as S5S under EN ISO 20345:2022 + A1:2024. A dash under M or AN means that the additional impact marking is not listed; the support provided is shown in the last column.

Which additional protection do you need?

BBZ9000BK: metatarsal protection

The safety toe cap protects your toes. If the top of your foot can also be struck during your work, protection further back on the foot becomes relevant. The BBZ9000BK provides additional metatarsal protection with the M marking. This protection covers the metatarsal bones, behind the safety toe cap.

If M protection is required for your work, the black BBZ9000BK is the appropriate version in this comparison. It also has a sloping collar with two reinforced pull-on openings: a practical difference when putting the boots on.

BBZ8000BKYL and BBZ8000BKOR: ankle protection

The BBZ8000 adds ankle protection with the AN marking . The protection is positioned on both sides of the ankle, where the boot needs to absorb impact. This makes the range the choice when your work calls for extra ankle protection. You can choose black/yellow (BKYL) or black/orange (BKOR); both offer the same additional AN protection.

BBZ6000: ankle and Achilles support

The BBZ6000 combines ankle and Achilles support with toe and penetration protection. It also has energy absorption under the heel (E), just like the other models. This gives the BBZ6000 support and safety protection for everyday work; the BBZ8000 adds the separately marked AN ankle impact protection.

Support and impact protection complement each other. AN is the additional marking for ankle impact protection; E refers to energy absorption under the heel.

What the five models have in common

For wet work, these versions share a similar foundation: 5 mm neoprene from shaft to toe, with a protective rubber layer, a waterproof construction and reflective details all around. The safety toe cap and penetration-resistant midsole are also metal-free.

The practical details are similar too. The breathable lining can be rolled down, and the insole is removable and washable. This is useful when you want to let the inside dry or clean the insoles. The kick-off spur at the heel makes it easier to take the boots off.

The BBZ outsole: grip and contact heat resistance

All five have a BBZ S5 rubber outsole with SR for additionally tested slip resistance and LG for ladder grip. The tread underfoot is therefore a shared feature; the choice between BBZ6000, BBZ8000 and BBZ9000 mainly comes down to support and additional impact protection.

The markings FO and HRO refer to the outsole: resistance to fuel oil and contact heat.

Waterproofing, neoprene and cold working conditions

On a wet building site, in a yard or during outdoor maintenance, damp and cold often go together. The BBZ construction combines a waterproof exterior with 5 mm neoprene. The neoprene contributes to insulation, while the outer rubber layer protects the construction. The boot therefore offers more than just a barrier against wet ground.

All five have the CI marking for cold insulation. This makes insulation a tested feature of the boot, alongside waterproofing. How warm the boots feel to you also depends on your work rate, how long you work outside and your socks. CI is therefore not a promise of warm feet all day at one fixed outdoor temperature.

Reflective details add to your visibility

All five have 360° reflective details: reflective elements are positioned all around the boot. They help you stand out when light shines on them, for example from work lighting. Their effect does depend on the lighting, viewing angle and how clean the reflective areas are.

The yellow-and-black and orange-and-black BBZ8000 are the brightly coloured versions in this comparison. The black BBZ9000 and both BBZ6000 models also have reflective details. The reflection complements your work equipment; any required high-visibility clothing remains a separate part of it.

Frequently asked questions about Buckbootz BBZ boots

What do CI and HRO mean on BBZ boots?

CI refers to the boot's cold insulation; HRO refers to the outsole's resistance to contact heat. All five BBZ versions compared here have both markings. If you mainly work outdoors in the cold, CI is the relevant feature; HRO helps you assess the outsole's suitability for contact with hot surfaces.

How does a non-marking outsole help me?

A non-marking outsole is designed not to leave sole marks on floors. This is practical when you also wear your work boots indoors. All five BBZ versions compared here have this outsole, so this feature does not require you to choose between the models.
